About this event
All monthlong in November, Swimmer Eco Studio will be displaying a collection of mixed media artwork centered on environmental conservation, local ecosystems, and sustainability — presented alongside new work by his art teacher, Mi Kyoung Yun, and artwork by her students from the Bulkwang Korean Cultural School. Come check it out! Swimmer Eco Studio is the creative work of a young local student artist, age 8, whose art centers on ocean life, local ecosystems, and environmental stewardship — encouraging visitors of all ages to think about trash cleanup, recycling, and protecting the natural world around them. This collection, titled Ecosystems & Renewal, features original pieces exploring environmental stewardship, trash cleanup, recycling, and the protection of local natural habitats. The exhibit combines vibrant watercolor paintings with 3D sculptural pieces built directly from repurposed and recycled materials. Each piece is display-ready and accompanied by an individual artwork label explaining the story and materials behind the work — making it an engaging, hands-on learning opportunity for visitors of all ages, especially young children discovering recycling and Earth stewardship for the first time. Visit the full digital portfolio, including images of each piece and the artist's statement, at Swimmer Eco Studio. This exhibit also features new work by Mi Kyoung Yun, a contemporary mixed-media artist based in New Jersey and Swimmer Eco Studio's art teacher. Her practice explores life, time, memory, and the relationship between people and the natural world, often incorporating discarded CDs and other repurposed materials into vibrant, layered abstract paintings. Her focus on recycled materials, both makes an environmental statement and reveals new beauty in what has been discarded. Visitors of all ages are invited to appreciate the artwork, explore the creative possibilities of reused materials, and reflect on the small ways we can help protect the environment. The display will be available for viewing in the front and rear vestibule display cases at Mahwah Public Library throughout November during regular Library hours. Please note: This display is independently arranged and is not a Mahwah Public Library-sponsored program or event. Artwork is presented for public viewing and appreciation only and is not for sale.
