About this event

Presented by Visual Artist Smriti Sangal

Create your own beautiful clay tealight holder inspired by the form of a lotus flower! In this hands-on workshop in celebration of Diwali, participants will learn basic clay modeling and sculpting techniques to shape delicate petals, assemble layered designs, and form a functional candle holder. Guided step-by-step, you'll explore the calming and tactile process of working with clay while crafting a piece that's both decorative and meaningful.

No prior clay experience is needed - just bring your creatively and curiosity! All materials will be provided. Each participant will take home their handcrafted tealight holder, perfect for adding a warm glow to any space this holiday season.

About the presenter: Smriti Sangal is a visual artist and educator with over a decade of experience teaching art in schools, museums, and community spaces across India, the UK, and the U.S. She holds an MFA from the University of the Arts London and is the founder of Culture Chauraha (“Culture Crossroads”), a New Jersey-based art studio dedicated to accessible, hands-on learning.

Smriti’s interdisciplinary practice encompasses painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, enameling, as well as paper and textile crafts. Her teaching is grounded in the belief that creativity is for everyone, regardless of age, background, or experience. She fosters inclusive, process-driven environments where students are encouraged to experiment, reflect, and grow at their own pace. Her classes/workshops aim not only to build technical skills, but to nurture confidence, curiosity, and joy in creative expression.

Registration is limited. All materials will be provided.

Visual Artist Smriti Sangal will join us at the library for a morning and evening art workshop on November 17. To allow more individuals to participate, please register and attend only one workshop per person. Duplicate registrations may be removed. Spaces at the event will be held for five minutes past the start of the program. If you are more than five minutes late, your spot may be forfeited.
