About this event

Please join us for a discussion about the future of BRICS. How will BRICS shape the global economy and development, and what will determine its impact? In 2001, Jim O'Neill coined the BRIC (Brazil-Russia-India-China) acronym, identifying four emerging economies poised to reshape the global economy. From an investment acronym to a major geopolitical grouping, BRICS has grown to 10 members and 10 partner countries, playing an increasingly prominent role in global politics, economic cooperation, and efforts to reform international institutions. We are honored to welcome Jim O’Neill for a keynote marking the 25th anniversary of his landmark BRIC paper and exploring BRICS’ future impact on the global economy. Marcos Troyjo, MIT's Wilhelm Fellow and former President of the BRICS-founded New Development Bank, will discuss BRICS’ potential impact on global development. Gemma Cheng’er Deng, CEO of BRICS+ Thinking, will examine BRICS’ values. Mihaela Papa, Director of the BRICS Lab, will assess BRICS’ ability to build consensus and translate agreements into action. RSVP here to attend in person or via Zoom. Hosted by the BRICS Lab and MIT's Center for International Studies. Question? Please email cis-info@mit.edu
