About this event
On Thursday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Innovate Carolina Junction in Chapel Hill, Carolina Chief Innovation Officer Tommy Sowers hosts a fireside chat with Ronit Freeman, the UNC associate professor leading IMPEDE, a consortium backed by up to $24.8 million from ARPA-H to detect and treat protein-misfolding diseases like Alzheimer’s and pulmonary fibrosis before symptoms appear. They’ll discuss how she assembled a 100-person, multi-university team and an industry partner in weeks, how AI and simulation are tackling “undruggable” proteins, her path toward a pulmonary fibrosis venture, and how Carolina’s innovation ecosystem moves discoveries toward patients. The event is aimed at faculty, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, industry partners and anyone curious about turning big ideas into real-world impact.
