About this event
This talk will use the recent viral video of a dancing robot falling and being dragged offstage, as a jumping off point to discuss a range of issues related to dance and the body.
We will first look at the history of dance and examine key moments where power structures were disrupted, old models were questioned, and new forms were created as a response to changes in society. We will examine where we are today and explore why the human body in live performance remains as powerful as ever. We will also explore how dance can connect us to ourselves and each other in a time of AI and robots.
This series is a collaboration between the Farquhar Honors Program and the Alvin Sherman Library.
