About this event
Archaeologist Dr. Kendy Altizer of UNG sheds light on one of the harshest chapters of American history.
Drawing on archival records, environmental history, and personal narratives, Dr. Kendy Altizer explores how the extreme physical conditions, isolation, and labor demands made the the rice plantations of the Santee Delta some of the most brutal environments for enslaved Africans and their descendants. Despite these unimaginable hardships, the presentation also highlights the strength, resilience, and cultural legacy of those who endured.
