Letters to Veterans-Community Service Project

About this event

Young writers of all experience and skill levels are encouraged to share letters and cards with veterans. This activity is part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library community service project provided by North County Regional Library. This is a great opportunity for younger generations to show the generations that came before them how much they appreciate their sacrifices. This community service project fosters empathy and an understanding of civic duty while preserving history. Letters and cards will be delivered to the Veteran's hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina. Recipients of the homemade letters and cards will be patients at the VA hospital.

Write a letter for a veteran. You can write as many letters as you would like. Students needing supplies can use stationary supplies at North County Regional Library. We have all the supplies needed to create your own letters/cards. You may use your own stationary. Please do not seal letters inside envelopes.

Once you've finished, turn in your letter/card to the children's desk at North County Regional Library during business hours. (more details in the description below) You should not enclose your letter inside an envelope.

There are no meeting times for this program. Participants will write the letters and return them to North County Regional Library. This program will be provided by North County Regional library staff.

We will send our letters to the VA Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Read directions carefully. When writing your letter, please do the following:

Write an encouraging, positive letter.

Make it neat.

Be creative.

Do not write the date.

Do not enclose your letter inside an envelope.

Do not include personal information (Full name, address, or phone number)

Do not include a photo of yourself.
