About this event
Join Jennifer Stone, PhD, for a workshop for adults who love picture books.
Any adult (parents, teachers, scholars, etc.) who wants to learn more about picturebooks and how they work is invited join this workshop on picturebook analysis and perspective-taking. We will create a fun and engaging space for learning how to improve critical media literacy skills for ourselves and the children we read with. As a group, we will read a picturebook, then discuss common theoretical lenses that can be used to understand it. Then we'll choose a different lens and read the book again to see what we discover! Dr. Stone will draw upon multiple resources including Poetry Unbound , Five in a Row , and Media Literacy for Young Children: Teaching Beyond the Screen Time Debates . This will be an interactive workshop, and patrons are invited to share feelings, observations, ideas, and questions. Each session of the three-part series will explore a different book, and participants are invited, but not required, to attend all three. We welcome you all for an adventure in learning and sharing!
