About this event

Two short films on Minneapolis residents who documented the immigration enforcement surge in winter 2025: They’re Here (Laura Poitras, Rachel Lauren Mueller) and A Month in Minnesota (Anne Sundberg).

A dynamic collection of shorts revealing the fight for truth—spotlighting whistleblowers, documentarians, and the power of going on the record. Screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

They’re Here | directed by Laura Poitras, Rachel Lauren Mueller | 24 min

When hundreds and then thousands of masked immigration agents descended on Minneapolis in the winter of 2025, residents put on their boots and picked up their cameras. They’re Here , from Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras and Rachel Mueller, is built from footage shot by local activists who tracked ICE operations and the challenges to them across the city.

A Month in Minnesota | directed by Anne Sundberg | 40 min

For A Month in Minnesota , director Anne Sundberg took her camera inside, too, capturing a city on edge, whose residents refused to look the other way. In one astonishing moment, a heavily armed ICE agent throws his hand before a camera filming an injured man curled up on the ground.

"Do not block my camera!" the young man shouts at the agent. "It is our one right, and you know that!"

These films stand as a reminder of how powerful that right can be.

About the Double Exposure (DX) Film Festival

On the Record: Evidence in an Age of Doubt

Alongside premieres of bold new short films, the DX Public Forum brings panels, workshops, and conversations that open the tools of accountability filmmaking to all. The festival is grounded in the idea that the rights to document, to question, and to demand transparency do not belong solely to journalists. The ability to film in public spaces, to access public records, to recognize manipulated media—these are shared civic tools.

The MLK Library welcomes audiences who have felt the ground shift under what they thought they knew, and who come seeking clarity, context, and a deeper understanding of how truth is made—and unmade—today.
