About this event

Join an educator from the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth to learn how the poppy came to be the symbol of veterans' sacrifice. This program includes a brief presentation on the poem “In Flanders Field,” which inspired Georgia educator Moina Belle Michael to use the poppy for fundraising and as a symbol of remembrance during World War I. Participants will continue this legacy by creating their own poppy and bringing it home, or all poppies may be displayed as a group project inside the library from the program date to just after Veterans Day.
