About the Artist
Janelle C. Stanford is a visual artist whose abstract paintings explore people, emotions, and memories through acrylics on canvas and canvas board. Having begun painting in high school, she has continued developing her artistic practice through college and beyond, sharing her work at gatherings with fellow artists. Her paintings are accompanied by poetry that reflects the emotions and experiences behind each piece. Stanford invites viewers to revisit her work from different angles and at different times, discovering new perspectives and personal interpretations with each encounter.
Series Title: Subject to Change
This series explores the tension between hope, freedom, and grief as life moves through periods of change and uncertainty. It reflects the desire to embrace new possibilities while confronting the unexpected challenges and losses that accompany personal growth. Through abstract painting and poetry, the series examines the contrast between outward composure and inner turmoil, questioning what it means to keep moving forward when the future remains uncertain. Ultimately, these works consider how hope and grief can coexist, reminding us that embracing new beginnings does not require leaving every sorrow behind.
