About this event

How America's largest entertainment industry planted its roots in the Garden State

Before Hollywood became Hollywood, New Jersey was one of the centers of the new motion-picture industry. This program explores the pioneers, studios, inventions, locations, and personalities that helped turn moving pictures into an American phenomenon. Discover how New Jersey played a major role in the birth of the industry—from Edison’s early experiments and Fort Lee’s silent film studios, to the movie palaces, stars, and unforgettable stories of the golden age of film.

John Schneider is the author of various books of New Jersey history including books about Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook, and the Lenape. He is the producer and host of the weekly television series Raritan Bayshore Living.
