About this event
Drawing its title from the political theory which shares the same name, Soft Power examines the hegemonic systems and architecture by which our beliefs and selfhood are constructed. Through its combination of textile and ceramic structures, the exhibition’s material contrast parallels the dissonance between expressions of intimacy, closeness, and desire and rigid, externally imposed methods of control. This new body of work hopes to imagine new ways of existing, of detaching from that which is instructed and living anew. With this exhibition, Shah considers the possibility of resisting a singular narrative, proposing a world in which we live unconfined by the demand for easy comprehension.
