About this event
General Physics Colloquium and Kieval Lecture, Dr. Anna Grassellino, Fermilab Title: From Particle Accelerators to Quantum Computers: Pushing the Frontiers of Superconducting Quantum Technology Host: Nigel Lockyer Abstract: Superconducting technologies have enabled some of the world's most powerful particle accelerators and are now opening new frontiers in quantum computing and sensing. Advances in materials science, microwave engineering, and cryogenic systems are pushing quantum coherence to unprecedented levels, creating new opportunities to build scalable quantum systems. In this talk, I will trace the evolution from superconducting radio-frequency cavities for accelerators to quantum processors and sensors, highlighting recent breakthroughs in coherence, three-dimensional superconducting architectures, and quantum simulation and sensing for fundamental physics. I will discuss the challenges ahead and the potential of these technologies to transform scientific discovery.
