About this event

Join us for a fascinating look at William Stives, a Black musician and Revolutionary War patriot whose story—and the stories of many Black, Indigenous, and women patriots—has often been left out of the traditional narrative of the American Revolution.

A musical presentation featuring soprano Pamela Simonson Parker, shines a necessary spotlight on historical figures whose contributions have frequently been excluded from traditional American Revolution narratives. Beyond exploring the remarkable journey of Stives—who endured the winter at Valley Forge, fought at the Battle of Monmouth, and witnessed the British surrender at Yorktown—the program will honor the broader experiences of Black, Indigenous, and women patriots who risked everything for a developing nation.
