About this event

Learn the science behind cat color, personality traits, and intelligence from Karol Maybury, Ph.D. a professor of Psychology at the University of Maine Farmington and the co-founder of the Maine Cat Lab. Dr. Maybury and Bryce Cundick have conducted multiple studies of cat / human attachment, personality trait differences and intelligence differences. Their online cat lab has 8,000 cat-human pairs and will share some of their discoveries. They will also cover their current study on Feline Fluency: the human capacity to discern the meanings of meows (like greeting and hunger). If you love cats or just are curious about the state of the science of assessing personality in cats, please join us. Bio: Professor Maybury has expertise in Social Cognition; Personality and Organizations (particularly aviation); Pet Attachment; and Research Methods. She leads the UMF Social Psychology Laboratory, which has produced several students who have pursued research positions and presented at the New England Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Psychological Association. In her spare time, she collaborates with Mantor Library Director Bryce Cundick. They have conducted numerous popular studies on cats, for both scholarly and popular audiences. Most recently, they developed the first cat intelligence assessment and a large-scale analysis of cat color and personality. To learn more, see their website: mainecatlab.org
