About this event

Meet and interact with artist Daniel Krovatin whose work is on view in the Reading Room.

About the Exhibition :

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, artist Daniel Krovatin presents a series of charcoal portraits celebrating the remarkable writers, musicians and cultural icons who have helped shape New Jersey’s identity and left their mark on the American story. From literary giants Edith Wharton, Walt Whitman and Toni Morrison to legendary voices Frank Sinatra, Patti Smith and Whitney Houston, and acclaimed writers Philip Roth and Sylvia Plath, these figures and a dozen others all reflect the Garden State’s extraordinary contributions to American arts and culture.

Rendered in bold, expressive charcoal, Krovatin’s hand-drawn portraits combine dramatic contrasts of light and shadow with richly textured lines to bring each subject’s distinctive features and personality to life. Together, these striking images span generations of creative talent in a compelling tribute to New Jersey’s enduring influence on the American cultural landscape.
