About this event
What happens when we slow down and spend a little more time with a single work of art? What can we learn from closely examining a mineral specimen? A Closer Look: Collections in Focus is a new series inviting students, faculty, staff and community members to look closely, ask questions and share ideas about objects from the University of Delaware Museums’ collections. For each 30-minute conversation, an undergraduate gallery attendant will guide an informal discussion centered on a single artwork or mineral specimen currently on view. No prior knowledge is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to look a little closer. For our November program, Heath Manrakhan, a sophomore history education major, will lead a conversation about Evening in Summer by Carl Christian, a work of art on view in the Mechanical Hall exhibition Assembled: Collage, Assemblage, and Mixed Media. Come take a closer look. You may be surprised by what you notice. Registration is encouraged but not required.
