Career Spotlight: Finishing Trades

About this event

Learn about careers and outlooks for the finishing trades!

Construction and extraction jobs are expected to grow faster than average in the years 2025 - 2035 , with over 580,000 openings projected each year, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). With higher-than-average annual pay, benefits, and low-educational barriers to entry, many jobseekers are considering a skilled trade.

Join us for a presentation and Q&A with Roxana Mejia, Director of Government and Political Affairs, from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Local 51 on the Finishing Trades:

Commercial Painter

Drywall Finisher

Floor Coverer

Glazier and Glassworker

Industrial Painter

Sign and Display Worker

Trade Show Worker

Learn what these professionals do each day, the upsides and downsides, job outlook, salary expectations, work/life balance, and how to get started, including training opportunities through the union. Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to learn while you earn; while the typical apprenticeship is four years, experience can shorten that timeframe.

Ideal for high school students and anyone interested in exploring a career in the trades.
