About this event
Jacqueline Volkell is a Tarrytown, New York based abstract painter whose work explores the relationship between nature, constructed environments, and her perception. Drawing inspiration from her immediate surroundings, she transforms trees, houses, streets, and the Hudson Valley landscape into shifting abstract compositions. Working in oil, Volkell creates vibrant, layered paintings that emerge from sensation and perception. Organic forms interact with underlying structures, while foreground and background increasingly merge, pushing observed subjects toward abstraction. In her figurative work, she draws from photographic source material, transforming the body into bold, vibrant florals and abstract forms. Volkell studied at the School of Visual Arts from 2003-2013 and returned to SVA in Spring 2026. Her studies focused on painting from the live nude figure, and working from the model became an important part of her practice. Volkell is presenting a solo exhibition at the Ossining Public Library. Her work has been included in many juried group exhibitions including the Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis MD; Arts Center East in Vernon, CT; and Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, CT. Be sure to visit the OPL Art Gallery on the lower level to see this interesting exhibit on display from November 1-25, 2026! There will not be an opening or a closing reception for this show.
