About this event
Embassy Series International Exchange Concerts Along with the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series Presents - "A Journey Through Italian Style on Piano and Cello." The library is pleased to welcome two renowned musicians to the Budarz Theater stage. Jacques-Pierre Malan on cello and Francesco Cipolletta on piano. Jacques-Pierre Malan comes to us from South Africa and Francesco Cipolletta from Italy. This program explores the Italian musical spirit through three distinct periods, beginning with the Baroque elegance of Bach’s Italian Concerto, followed by the Romantic virtuosity of Piatti, and the 20th-century voice of Stravinsky. Together, these works let us peek into Italy’s cultural heritage from three completely different chronological perspectives. Jacques Pierre-Malan has been praised for his "vibrant musicality" and described as a "tour de force." A native of South Africa, he has performed all throughout Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, and artistic leader. Malan currently serves as Cellist-in-Residence and Co-Artistic Director of the historic Embassy Series in Washington, D.C. where he collaborates with embassies, diplomats, and international artists to create programs that foster cultural understanding through music. Francesco Cipolletta resides in Turin where, at the age of seven, began his studies with the well-known Italian teacher Maria Golia. He has performed all throughout Italy including, Turin, Milan, Rome, Bologna, Verona, Venice, Florence, Bari, Como and many others as well as performing all around the world including, Brussels, London, Copenhagen, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Hong Kong and many others. He is often invited for Piano Master Classes at the University of Pretoria South Africa, at the Academy for Performing Arts Hong Kong and he is invited as a jury member in both National and International Piano Competitions. He is the Full Professor of Piano at the State Conservatory of Music of Cuneo Italy. Don't miss this opportunity to see these two incredible talents!
