About this event

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, a 2026 Community Arts Grant awardee, proudly presents The Intersection of Art and Music Through the Ages, a three-part presentation-performance series that explores the connection between art and music through the insights of art historian Professor Thomas Germano and the artistry of specially selected ensembles led by Maestro Brent Morden. Each program begins with an exploration of a major artistic movement through engaging commentary and stunning visual images, followed by a live performance of music from the same era reflecting the themes, ideals, and stylistic characteristics of the period. Together, the lecture and performance reveal how painters and composers responded to shared cultural, historical, and artistic influences, and how these parallel creative developments shaped some of history’s most enduring masterpieces. Program III – Abstract Expressionism & Modern Jazz Discover how artists like Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko revolutionized visual art through abstraction, gesture, and spontaneity. The program concludes with an exciting live jazz band performance illustrating the shared spirit of improvisation and creative freedom that links modern jazz with Abstract Expressionism. Registration required via online calendar, beginning Monday, November 2. Individual registration is required for each attendee. Events are open to all. This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.
