About this event
Georgia O'Keefe (1887 - 1986) once wrote, "To see takes time" Best known for her flower paintings, O'Keeffe also created an extraordinary series of preliminary multimedia drawings. Throughout a long and prolific career, O'Keeffe revisited and reworked the same subjects, developing, repeating, and transforming motifs that bridge observation and abstraction. Georgia returned to the landscapes of her familiar surroundings in the New Mexico desert. From her studio at Ghost Ranch, she repeatedly explored the motif of "Pedernal", the iconic flat-topped mountain. O'Keeffe described Pedernal as her "Mont St. Victoire", a reference to the often-painted motif associated with Paul Cezanne. Professor Thomas Germano will present this visual lecture, taking a closer look at the landscapes that inspired O'Keeffe's New Mexico paintings.
