Homeschool Afternoon - Write, Draw & Vote

About this event

Are you homeschooling your kids? We'd like to invite you to the Upper Merion Township Library once a month to explore different library activities! Each month we will have a different event, including things like makerspace items, board games, arts & crafts, escape rooms, and more.

This month join us for a hands-on program where kids become authors, illustrators and even book critics. We will explore together the art of storytelling and artistic expression. Kids will create their own stories and artwork, explore how picture books work and finish by voting for their favorites in mock elections. We will also specifically spotlight 2 annual awards that are important in our library community:

Newbery Medal — Awarded annually since 1922, it honors the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, focusing on text and storytelling.

Caldecott Medal — Established in 1938, this award recognizes the most distinguished American picture book for children, emphasizing the quality of illustrations.

All activities are geared towards those in grades K-8: if you have younger children they are welcome to come and we will have a few activities, coloring books, etc. just for them!
