About this event

The name is familiar, but do you know the facts behind the manslaughter charges? With this lecture, you will learn of Roscoe “dirt poor” childhood, his rise to fame, some of the practical jokes he played with good friend Buster Keaton, and his very sad end just as his life and career were on the rise again. Roscoe became the first cancel culture victim in the Untied States! You will also learn of the background of Hollywood in 1921, which had illegal liquor, wild parties, sex, adultery and drugs, all funded by outrageous salaries. This made people in America anxious to end this “den of inequity” and, after a wild Labor day party that led to the death of a minor actress, they found their scapegoat in Roscoe. It became three real life manslaughter trials and his career was finished. At the conclusion of the presentation, a silent short and a rare Arbuckle sound short will be screened. Period music, autographs, memorabilia. period newspapers and a book display are included.
