About this event
The complicated reality of the American colonists’ quest for independence is that it happened while all 13 colonies enslaved others. The tension of what to do with and about slavery emerged in Philadelphia during debates about the Declaration and on the battlefield with a British 1775 proclamation promising emancipation to any enslaved person who joined their armies. Valencia College History Professor Mike Szlama analyzes the role and impact of slavery during the revolution. Partnership with Valencia College.
