About this event

Learn about Burmese history, culture, and art all through the lens of food with a tasting featuring traditional flavors and ingredients. Burma is an often misunderstood country that has seen periods of significant upheaval (today, it is in the grips of a civil war). But it has a beautiful, distinct culture that reflects the region it's in. Learn why Burma is oftentimes called Myanmar, see and feel authentic art forms, and, of course, taste three famous foods. We will start with Burmese milk tea, the country's most famous drink, then learn the recipe for Burmese tea leaf salad, a savory afternoon snack of fermented tea leaves, fried beans, cabbage, fresh tomato, and a dressing, and finish with cassava cake, a popular dessert made with a humble ingredient. Attendees will leave with all three recipes and hopefully a motivation to explore more Burmese food in the future!
