About this event

Rangoli is an art form which is native to India. The patterns are created on the floor. Rangoli patterns can be simple geometric shapes, floral shapes or they can also be very elaborate designs. Some common symbols used in Rangoli are peacocks, lotus flowers, mangoes, and fish. These Rangoli patterns are drawn with a mixture of calcium or chalk powder or rice flour. The patterns can be filled with a mix of materials such as colored powders, sand, flower petals, rice flour, lentils and beans. This forms a Rangoli, one of the most beautiful Indian folk arts. The participants will create Rangoli using multiple colored sand on a letter-size craft paper. They have the choice to select one pattern. All the materials will be provided. The instructor will provide the instructions and guide on color schemes, and color placements. All participants can take their masterpieces home. A Piscataway Public Library card is required to register for this event. [Grant Logo] Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
