About this event
About the Series The Palace at the End of the Sea (Theo Sterling, #1) and The Room of Lost Steps (Theo Sterling, #2) tell the story of a young man whose world unravels as the Great Depression exerts its icy grip on New York City. A charismatic school friend and a firebrand Spanish girl inspire him to believe he can fight fascism and change the world, but his faith is destroyed by the harrowing experience of the brutal Spanish Civil War. About the Author Simon Tolkien has written seven novels. A late developer, he began writing crime thrillers at the age of forty, inspired by his work as a London barrister, before turning to historical fiction, setting epic coming-of-age stories in the first war-torn decades of the 20th century. Simon is the grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien and a director of the Tolkien Estate. He lives in Santa Barbara, California. Registration required. Registration opens one month before the program at 7:00pm.
