About this event
In this 250 th Anniversary of the American Revolution, North Carolina residents may wonder, “What happened here?” From the 1775 burning of the only fort destroyed by Patriots anywhere, to a final Redcoat raid in 1782, our state was the scene of surprising stories from the mountains to the sea. Examples include a forgotten campaign against the Cherokee, an Overmountain Campaign that turned the tide of war, an iconic chase between two armies ending in a climactic battle, and a vicious civil war between partisans. Enslaved people, minorities, and women all took courageous stands. Within an hour’s drive of Durham, Continentals made a dramatic escape, the governor was kidnapped, and Tories were tricked to death. Come become an instant expert on Revolutionary N.C. and you’ll amaze your “kith and kin!”
