Wilder & Lemmon Film Discussion

About this event

An often overlooked element by film studies scholars is performance, and at this session we will look at the decades-long collaboration between Billy Wilder and Jack Lemmon, one of the great actors in cinema history. All seven of their collaborations are highly recommended but our focus will be on their first two works, The Apartment and Some Like it Hot. We will also look at Lemmon’s post-Wilder career to better understand the lasting impact the filmmaker had on the actor. Please watch the films on your own prior to the discussion. The discussion will be led by: Jeff Hughes is a PhD student in American Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, after earning multiple degrees from the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He is a frequent film lecturer at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY.
