About this event
What stories do we carry, and what happens when we give them form? Join local poet Harriet Shenkman for a creative and supportive two-session experience of poetry, memory, and collage. In the first session, participants will engage with writing prompts and exercises to craft a short poem. In the second session the subsequent week, participants will learn about the art of collage and give their poems physical form through the assemblage of paper clippings and other handcraft materials. Throughout, Ms. Shenkman will provide a supportive space for expression and exploration. All materials will be provided, though participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their other notebooks and collage materials for a more personal creation. Please Note: This is a two-part series where work done in the second session builds upon the first. If you cannot attend both sessions, you cannot fully enjoy this program. About the presenter Harriet Shenkman is a professor emerita at City University of New York. She holds a Ph.D. from Fordham University, an M.Ed. from Duke University and a B.A. from Brooklyn College. Her poetry has appeared in Alexandria Quarterly, The Westchester Review, Berru Poetry Series of the Jewish Book Council, The Comstock Review, and elsewhere. Her latest published collection is Wonder Wheel.
