About this event
Please join us for an Author Talk with Mary Beth Keane, the beloved and New York Times bestselling author of Ask Again, Yes, who will be in conversation with Susy Hayes Jones about her forthcoming family saga Whale Harbor. Inspired by Mary Beth's own family history, Whale Harbor is a profound, beautifully written multigenerational epic opening in the 1960s that follows eleven brothers between Ireland, England, Montana, and New York. After a family tragedy, the siblings are split apart, leaving the seventh brother Rian - who wanted desperately to join his older brothers and is devastated to be left behind - disappears. The endless search for him tethers the brothers to each other, and to their shared childhood experiences in Ireland. Readers will find their hearts engaged by every scene and sentence; by the opportunities missed and taken, by the way childhood experiences reverberate throughout our lives, by the quiet and loud ways families care for each other and love each other - and forgive each other. Mary Beth Keane is the author of four previous novels, including the New York Times bestselling Ask Again, Yes. She was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship for fiction writing, and has received citations from the National Book Foundation, PEN America, and the Hemingway Society. Born in the Bronx to parents from the west of Ireland, she lives in New York with her husband and two sons. Susy Hayes Jones is the creator and host of The Hayes’ Pages Literary Salon Series. Growing up with an author as her mother, Susy’s passion for reading and literature was nurtured from an early age. She established Hayes’ Pages in 2023 to share her love of books and to champion authors, libraries, and independent bookstores. Through Hayes’ Pages, she offers book reviews, sneak peeks, industry news, and author events. As the host of a unique salon style series, she hopes to connect authors and readers in meaningful ways around stories and “beyond the page.” Previously, she worked at Entertainment Weekly, Forbes and CNN. You can find her on Instagram @hayespages. Elm Street Books will be selling copies of Whale Harbor, which Mary Beth will be happy to sign after her program. A portion of the proceeds will go to Wilton Library. Registration is requested. Register online or call 203-762-6334.
